We are getting a lot of calls regarding CPH numbers, this scheme is not new, it was implemented back in October 2024, for all livestock keepers to register, further details can be found at the Gov.uk website or by Telephone (Defra rural services helpline): 03000 200 301 Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
Regarding Bird Flu – Avian Influenza
Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) is in an avian influenza prevention zone (AIPZ). By law you must follow strict biosecurity and hygiene rules to prevent bird flu and stop it spreading. For more information please check the Gov.uk website.
You may also be in a disease control zone or AIPZ where you must house your birds. Check what zone you’re in and follow the rules published on the Gov.uk website.
You cannot hold bird gatherings of poultry, galliforme or anseriforme birds in England. This includes ducks, geese, swans, pheasants, partridge, quail, chickens, turkeys and guinea fowl.
Gatherings of all other types of birds are permitted provided you:
- follow and meet all the requirements of the captive bird gathering general licence
- are not in a disease control zone

Staffordshire Spring Bird Show remains the greatest gathering in the country for aviculture. Nowhere else will you find such a vast array of healthy, well-kept avicultural specimens available from experienced breeders ready to share their knowledge freely.
This show is not a ‘pet fair’, there are no pet birds for sale just a massive selection of, mostly British, captive bred birds for sale by breeders and to breeders.
Every birdkeeper is welcome, from junior to the most experienced and the show continues it’s ethos of sharing and advancing avicultural practices by encouraged knowledge sharing.
